How to determine the type of Internet connection. What are the types of Internet connections and how to choose the right one

Before starting the router configuration process, each user must prepare. Setting up the connection type of the router is not a difficult task, and this means only one thing, that it needs to collect all the information that is required in the process of filling in the parameters.

Among the most important data is the connection type. Depending on it, other data may be required, or this will be all. For example, when dynamically distributing ip addresses, no other data is required. But if the address is static, then the user needs to enter the value of the name and key specified by the provider to connect to the network.

MAC address

Another important point is the Mac address. If the Internet provider specifies the mac-address, then entering the exact data in the router will not start the network. All valid addresses must be entered. It is important to understand that the main purpose of the router is to provide access to the connection to different devices. This can be a wired network or a wireless connection. For this reason, it is important that during the setup every single parameter is entered correctly and, most importantly, the connection type (WAN Connection Type) is correctly selected.

What happens if the connection type is incorrectly specified?

The problem of choosing a connection is one of the most frequent. If this parameter is not specified correctly, but all other data is entered correctly, then the network will appear on the computer. But the Internet itself will not be available. Wireless connection between different devices will be available, but they will also not be able to access the Internet. On all devices that are connected to the network, the “no access” icon will be lit.

This means that the equipment cannot connect to the ISP, which means there are some errors during the setup.

How to determine the connection technology used by the provider?

When it comes to technology, providers can use a small set of options. First of all, this is the distribution of an ip address statically or dynamically, then PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP are available. To understand what they are, you should learn more about them.

  • Dynamic IP. Occurs most often. The address is provided automatically by the provider. It changes every time you connect. In the router parameters, it is necessary to mark Dynamic IP. After that, no further action is required. Very user friendly technology.
  • Static IP. If the provider indicated that you have a static address, this means that he accurately prescribes it in the contract, and the login data and key for connecting to the network are also indicated. In this case, you specify the type of connection - static, then enter the value of the ip-address, a pair of login / password. This method is less popular among ISPs as it requires keeping track of which addresses are assigned to whom.
  • Technology PPPoE. It is widely used in Russia and is suitable for high-speed connection. For it, in the parameters, you must specify the type of connection PPPoE. the provider also issues the login and key specified in the contract. This type often requires a static ip-address, it will be given in the contract.
  • Technology PPTP And L2TP. These technologies are similar. They require a number of parameters to be specified, such as the name and key for authorization, the address of the server with which the connection will be made, and a static IP address.

Before you configure the router settings, you should find out. What technology is used by the provider.

Connection technology: how to find out?

There are several options. You can see it in the contract. Individual providers indicate this information in the contract. The second option is to call the support service and ask all your questions. If the provider has been working in the service market for a long time, then he has a website with a good information base. It will provide instructions for setting up equipment from different manufacturers. This instruction will indicate the type of connection used.

If you decide to contact support, it is recommended that you also learn about binding by MAC address and the MTU value that is optimal for specifying.

If you know the type of connection, then you should decide if it requires other parameters. In the case of a dynamic address, nothing is needed. But if you have any other type, then you need to find out the login and password, static address, possibly the server address. The set of these parameters will depend on your case.

In most cases, it is worth carefully studying the contract. It contains all the data.

How to solve the problem with binding by MAC address?

Most ISPs prefer to bind by MAC address. This means that any equipment has its own address, for distributing the Internet it is indicated by the provider.

If your case is like this, then even with the correct configuration of the router, the network will not work. This is due to the fact that the provider will have the address of the computer, and not the router that you connected.

What to do in such a situation? First of all, you should find out in advance whether the service provider has this binding. If it doesn't exist, then you don't have to worry. Just enter all the information you have correctly.

In case of binding, it is necessary to perform a series additional actions. First of all, it should, therefore, the router will have the same address value as the computer.

If you are unable to perform cloning for a number of reasons, then use the second option: find out the mac-address of the router. It is indicated on the label with the parameters that is on the device. Then contact the service technical support, explain the situation and dictate a new address.

Safe operation rule

In conclusion, it should be noted that for the correct and reliable operation of the router, it is enough to follow two rules.

  • Precisely select the type of connection you are using and other options.
  • Duplicate the Mac address or specify a new value from the Internet provider.

When sufficient attention is paid to these points when entering parameters, then there will be no problems. After that, you can create wireless connection and enter a username and password for it, which will reliably protect the network from unwanted guests.

1. Ways to connect to the Internet

The choice of how to connect to the Internet depends not only on your technical capabilities, but also from the technical capabilities of the provider. Here we are not talking about connecting to the Internet as something virtual, but specifically about connecting to a provider, to the provider's equipment.

There are a lot of ways to connect to the provider's equipment:

Dial-up telephone line connection,
- on a dedicated line,
- by digital telephone communication,
- via cable TV network,
- via satellite channels,
- by radio.

1. The most accessible and commonly used way to connect to the Internet is to connect over a regular dial-up telephone line (dial-up). There is such a line in every home and office, and to connect a computer to the Internet via such a line, you need only one device - a modem.

Modem is a special device that connects a computer to a telephone line. Modems are internal and external.

Internal modem- is an electronic board that is located inside the system unit. The internal modem is cheaper than the external one, however, it is inferior in terms of information transfer speed and ease of use.

External modem is a separate device that connects to a computer. An external modem is more expensive than an internal modem, transmits information faster, and provides greater convenience.

So, the modem is connected (or embedded) to a computer, and a dial-up telephone line is connected to the modem. At the right time for the user, the modem dials the provider's number and connects to the Internet. That is why the line is called switched, since the connection can be established and disconnected, as well as talking on a regular phone using the same line.

Rice. "Dial-up connection scheme - via dial-up telephone line"

SPEED transmissions - up to 56 kbps. In the outgoing direction - not > 33 kbps. The bottleneck of dialup is the speed of the incoming stream (because it transfers 5-8 times more data than in the outgoing stream). The connection speed is affected by:
· the quality of your modem
· telephone line status
· the degree of workload of the provider's equipment.

· The speed of subsequent work depends on
from the situation in the network nodes. There are "plugs"
due to traffic overload (if many people access a popular server at once).

BENEFITS: · the cheapest way to connect to the Internet,
· the most accessible: anyone who has a phone has the ability to connect.

LIMITATIONS: · low speed (3-7 Kb / s),
· while working at the boarding school Vasha phone line busy,
·
accidental disconnections during operation are possible.

2. Another way to connect is to connect via leased line:
xDSL, ISDN, ETHERNET technologies
.

The very name "leased line" indicates that this line is only connected to the Internet and this is its main (often the only) purpose. That is, a computer or several computers connected to a network are permanently connected to the Internet. This method is most suitable for organizations (including educational institutions), as it provides shared access to all computers local network through one dedicated line. The speed of information exchange using such a connection is much higher than using a dial-up telephone line, however, the cost of such a connection is higher. Usually one includes subscription fee and a fee for exceeding the normative traffic.

Note: using a dial-up telephone line (dial-up) it is also possible to organize collective access,
but the speed of information exchange leaves much to be desired.

A leased line is required if you have your own server that provides certain information or services on the Internet. Such a server must be connected to the Internet around the clock.

2.1. xDSL technology (Digital Subscriber Line) - digital subscriber line. The basic principle of DSL technologies is the use copper wires, originally intended to connect subscribers to the PBX. DSL greatly expands the bandwidth of copper telephone lines through efficient signal coding,
distortion correction methods, the use of a higher frequency band than telephone communications (300 - 3400 Hz). DSL allows you to connect LAN segments via telephone lines with speeds close to those of Ethernet, effectively solving the "last mile" problem when connecting remote users to a corporate network or the Internet.

BENEFITS DSL technologies:
· Economical through the use of existing telephone lines.
·
Permanent connection (different from dial-up line).
·
Data transfer rate comparable to Ethernet speeds.
·
Can simultaneously transmit analog phone voice traffic over one phone line
and computer network data.
·
Ensuring the specified quality of service for mission-critical applications through
continuous monitoring of the characteristics of the communication line.
·
Automatic selection of information transfer rate depending on the quality and length of the communication line.

2.2. ISDN technology(Integrated Services Digital Network) - integrated services digital network.
Uses the same subscriber lines as conventional telephony.
On the basis of a telephone line, 2 B-channels are created, capable of transmitting both speech and data, video and audio information ("basic access" - BRI).
An ISDN line terminates at a "network termination" (NT). You can connect various ISDN equipment to NT.
You can use one digital line to connect traditional services (telephone, fax, telex),
and transmission of teletext, video, etc.
Transfer speed over telephone line - up to 128 Kbps! With ISDN Internet access, you can use the phone at the same time (during the call, the data transfer rate will be lower by 64 Kbps).

2.3. Technology ETHERNET. The high speed of the Internet channel makes working on the Web a pleasure (you can quickly download large volumes, work with multimedia, participate in video conferences, etc.). Connection speed - up to 100 Mbps.

3. Other methods of connecting to the Internet are also actively used, but so far less common.

One alternative way to connect to the Internet is to connect through operators cellular communication . Many mobile phones support access to the Internet with a special WAP protocol(Wireless Application Protocol) – wireless access protocol. There are special pages on the Internet that are optimized for viewing on mobile phones.

Mobile phone you can also connect to a computer and thus access the Internet from a computer. This method is good when you are on a business trip, traveling, when you are outside the office.

Laptops now have another way to connect to the Internet. These computers incorporate a special electronic board that supports technology WiFi designed for wireless connecting computers to a network, including for connecting to the Internet.

Connecting to a corporate remote access server

The Internet has long become the norm for all inhabitants of the planet. Thanks to him, money transactions are carried out, people watch TV shows, study at master classes, learn previously unknown information. However, connecting to the Internet is not easy. You must be connected via a local network, through a mobile provider, or in another way. Internet connection is carried out using fiber optic cable, twisted pair, ADSL, or wireless Wi-Fi.

Cable connection

The most common type of connection is cable. This type of connection is carried out using twisted pair or optical fiber. twisted pair is a cable consisting of four pairs of copper wires. It receives and transmits a signal. Modern providers conduct Internet to apartment buildings in this manner: a router is installed, a wire comes to it and, using a connector, is connected to a distributor, from which wires are already routed to the apartments. At the junction with the computer, the ends of these wires are crimped with a connector.

twisted pair

Optical fiber is already more modern means transmission of information over a distance. It is also connected and has almost the same junction boxes as twisted pair, but with the difference that over an optical cable information is transmitted at speeds up to 1 Gb per second, while over twisted pair only up to 100 Mb / s.

Fiber optic connection

Connecting FTTB or optics to the house is a connection to the World Wide Web using fiber optics, and distribution to the apartment is done using twisted pair.

Twisted pair connected either directly in the system unit, or in home wifi router. Using this connection, it is possible to provide users' apartments not only with the Internet, but also with a telephone and digital television.

GPon is gigabit link. It provides users with high-speed access up to 1 gigabit per second. The cable is connected in the user's apartment to a special media converter, which in turn receives data and distributes it to the user's devices. Such equipment began to appear in our cities quite recently.

The local network

The principle of local connection is to connect several computers at home or in a factory to one network, for which the provider allocates an IP address. This address can be static or dynamic.

When connected with dynamicIP, the provider automatically assigns you the necessary settings at certain intervals. Nothing is required of you, just plug the cable into your computer and connect to the Internet.

StaticIP differs from the first one in that the provider issues the settings to the user and he already configures his computers, network card and Internet access. The upside of a static IP is that it's handy for online services that ask you for an IP address. The router most often automatically determines the IP.

This technology is called Ethernet.

VPN network

A virtual private network or VPN is a technology for encrypting data. Thus, your data is protected at the time of transmission. They safely and safely reach the provider. Working with a virtual private network is most often implemented in several ways:

Combined connection

This type of connection combines several types of connections at the same time. Usually the first is a virtual private network, and the second is a dynamic or static IP. Such a connection is rarely used, as it is the most difficult.

Phone line

Now the world is dominated by cable connection, and the telephone line is gradually becoming a thing of the past. But in such remote areas from large cities or desert areas, it still has its own meaning, because it is not advisable and expensive to pull the cable there.

Internet through a home phone is transmitted over a telephone line several types of communication:

  • ADSL, SHDSL, VDSL are varieties of Digital Subscriber Line or DSL. ADSL uses a telephone line to transfer data and connects to a computer via a modem and cables. In addition, with the help of this connection, not only the Internet works, but also the phone. Truth, throughput this type of connection is very small compared to modern cable installations. If the first one uses asymmetric data transmission, SHDSL in turn uses symmetric duplex transmission. The speed of such a connection on one pair is no more than 2.3 megabits per second. VDSL is ultra high speed digital subscriber line. This technology is used when connecting fiber from the provider to the user switch, and from the latter via a twisted pair cable to the system unit. This technology achieves high speed receiving data over short periods.
  • DIAL UP (dial-up access) is the oldest type of data transmission over a telephone line. Transmission speed about 56 kilobits per second. You cannot make phone calls at this time, otherwise the connection to the Internet will be disconnected. The modem is connected to the telephone line and to the computer. The modem is connected by number, and the user gets access to the network.

TV cable DOCSIS

Access is via TV cable. It is brought into the apartment for the subscription and distributed to the TV and modem, or immediately goes to the computer. 300 megabits per second is his maximum speed. But this type of connection is not common.

This type of data transmission has become the most popular in Lately. After all, no cables or routers are needed. Most importantly, you must have a phone with you that supports 2G, 3G, 4G and is in the coverage area of the communication provider.

2G- the slowest telephone connection technology. Previously used on the first smartphones. Its speed is measured in kilobits per second. It was also called GPRS, which replaced the GSM standard

3G (3 rd Generation) - this connection model is also already outdated, but still in use. Its speed reaches 40 megabits per second.

4G/LTE is new format network connection, which maintains speed data transfer up to 300 megabits per second.

5G is replacing all standards. This type of connection is still being tested. But they are committed to introduce it in Western countries by 2020. He has already passed the first test with great success. In Russia, the first tests of 5G technology will be held during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Satellite Internet

Satellite Internet is the most expensive. There are two types of such network entry - one-way and two-way. At unilateral transmission takes place over a terrestrial channel, and when bilateral The exchange takes place via satellite. The speed at the same time reaches tens of megabits per second.

WiMax or WiFi

WiMax is a connection by means of highly focused microwaves. This type of network access is used on long distances and provides a broadband connection, and it also uses the MAC address protocol.

Wi-Fi is needed for broadband Internet access within the office or at home. He operates on unlicensed bands. This type of communication is more common and adapted to the average user.

FAQ

Now we understand how communication with the World Wide Web takes place through our devices. But many users ask questions about what is broadband access, open internet or others. So let's take a look at the most common ones.

Open Internet is often used by providers in the names of tariffs. This is the internet which is charged after the end of the traffic, which is included in the subscription fee.

Broadband access (broadband) is access to the network at a speed much more than the speed of a modem or telephone network.

Some are interested in what networks are. There are three connection types:

  • LAN– local computer networks. These networks are mostly owned by one organization and have a coverage of several kilometers or tens of meters. Such networks can be connected to each other through a ring. Or in line mode using routers. The second way is much more convenient and efficient.
  • Regional networks. Their coverage reaches 100 kilometers. Usually these are city, regional networks.
  • Global. In fact, this is an Internet network that connects all the computers in the world into one big web.

In addition, you can highlight division by the method of communication (wired and wireless), the method of control (with centralized and decentralized control) and by the composition of computing facilities (homogeneous and heterogeneous).

And finally, if you want to know the type of connection your computer has to the Internet, for this you need to right-click on the computer icon in the lower right corner of the screen and open network control center and general access.

In the window that opens, click " Change adapter settings».

On the screen you will see a window where all your connections will be displayed.

The one without the red X icon is the current connection. To find out in more detail, it is better to contact the provider, or determine the type based on the above methods.

The modern world is already hard to imagine without the Internet. Thanks to various search engines on the Web, you can find absolutely any information, spend your free time playing exciting online games. In addition, through the World Wide Web, you can use services that make our lives easier, namely: food delivery, taxis, courier services and much more.

Today, the Internet has already become a part of life. modern man. Almost all business and entertainment are somehow connected with the Global Network. However, to ensure a connection, several conditions must be met at once. The topic of our today's conversation: "What is an Internet connection? Types of connection, their advantages and disadvantages."

Via cable

Currently, this type of connection is the most widespread. To connect yourself to cable Internet, you need to contact the provider that services your home. He will stretch a wire into the apartment through which the signal will go. Typically, twisted pair or optical fiber is used for this purpose. Consider the features of these options.

twisted pair

In this case, a copper cable is connected to your apartment from a distribution cabinet installed in the entrance to your apartment, which is then connected to a computer or router. According to this principle, connection is usually carried out in apartment buildings. In this case, it is enough to simply determine what type of connection is installed in your home. If a thin wire comes into your apartment, and the average connection speed is up to 100 Mbps, then twisted pair is most likely used. If the speed is faster and the cable is thicker, you probably have a fiber optic Internet connection. Connection types can be determined by other signs.

Optics

In the case of using an optical connection, a cable is brought into the apartment, which is connected to a special distribution cable installed in the house. This type of connection has one very important advantage. The speed in this case can reach 1 Gbps. With an optical cable, you can connect to world wide web and use TV and telephone services. In this case, it is not necessary to bring three wires into the apartment at once: one cord will be responsible for all types of connection. cable internet can work with network protocols using two protocols: local and virtual.

The local network

The principle of operation of a cable connection using a local protocol is that your provider defines a separate IP for you. The communication provider combines all PCs into one common network, where each address is controlled. This type of connection can also be subdivided according to the use of static or dynamic IP. The easiest way is to use a dynamic IP address. The settings are made directly by the Internet provider. The user does not need to correct anything.

How to find out what type of connection you have? If you just connected a cable to your computer and the Internet worked, then you have a dynamic IP. When using static IPOC, it will ask for additional login options. In terms of providing access to the Internet, the static option is more complicated. The system will ask you to enter data before each session. You can request all the necessary information for connection from the provider.

For services that constantly request a static IP, this address is preferable. How, then, in this case, to determine that it is the static version that is used? In most modern routers through which an Internet connection is made, connection types are determined automatically. If you have a cheap or old router, then the provider can provide you with all the necessary data. Also, experts will help you deal with a specific model of the device. Judging by the reviews, most providers connect their customers through a static IP address. Rostelecom is engaged in the wide introduction of "statics". This is due to the fact that such a connection facilitates the process of controlling each specific user. As for the quality of the connection, everything here is largely determined by the type of cable and user equipment.

Virtual network

A VPN, or virtual private network, works on the principle of using encrypted protocols. Data exchange between the provider and the user's PC is encrypted, increasing the security on the Web. There are only two main types of VPN connection - PPTP and PPPoE. One of the most popular protocols are PPPoE. To connect to the Internet, you will need a username and password. Operating system Windows recognizes PPPoE as a high speed conditional dialing connection.

PPTP is not widely used because the user is required to enter the address of the provider's server. A feature of PPTP is the encryption algorithm. Which operators wired internet in our country work according to such a protocol? The most popular provider that uses it is Beeline. Reviews about this type of connection are rather ambiguous. Many are not satisfied with the changing speed of the data stream, but for some it is not critical.

FTTB

At the time of writing this review, the most popular type of Internet connection is FTTB. When using this type of connection, wired Internet operators install a switch in the house that interacts with the provider's station using fiber optics. A twisted pair cable is extended to the subscriber's apartment, which is inserted into the router or directly into the PC. In terms of price / quality ratio, this type is optimal. The access speed can be up to 1 Gigabit per second.

Using Combined Connection Types

What are the types of Internet connections? A combined connection combines several types at once. The priority in this case will be the virtual network. As additional resources, you can use static and dynamic IP addresses. The difference between these types lies in the method of entering data about the provider's server: manual or automatic. In reality, this type of connection is rarely used. Often it is used in office networks with a multi-level structure.

Connection via telephone line

Surely many remember the times when Internet access was carried out through the phone. dominate today fiber optic technologies. However, to this day there are territories where, for a number of reasons, it is impossible to stretch an expensive cable. In this case, having a home phone helps a lot. You can connect to the Internet via Dial-Up or ADSL. The latter allows you to work at low speeds of the order of 10 megabits. This is enough for most tasks. To fully work on this technology, you will need a telephone cable and a modem. At the same time, if you want both the phone and the Network to work for you, you need to use a splitter. He is responsible for branching the loops to the phone and computer.

Dial-up Internet access can already be called a relic of the past. With this technology, the phone line will be busy if you are browsing the Internet. The connection speed will be only 56 Kbps. Today, this is no longer enough. Despite all the shortcomings of this technology, there are simply no other options in hard-to-reach areas. Judging by user reviews, when using this type of connection, even watching a YouTube video becomes a problem.

Satellite Internet

Many today are interested in how to connect the Internet through a satellite dish. It is currently one of the most expensive types of compound. However, you can install a plate almost anywhere. The main requirement is good visibility of the satellite. For most large operators, this is not a problem.

A satellite dish is the best answer to the question: "Which Internet is better in private house?" With the help of a satellite dish, you can easily access the Web even in the wilderness, where there are no communications. Many people probably know how satellite TV works. The Internet through this device works in the same way, the only difference is that a transmitter is additionally placed on the dish. This is necessary in order to ensure two-way information exchange. Such a channel operates at a speed of several tens of megabits. The main disadvantage of this type of connection is the high cost of equipment and maintenance. Tariffs for such an Internet are simply exorbitant.

WiFi

Many are probably familiar with Wi-Fi protocols and know firsthand what a wireless connection is. As a rule, Wi-Fi covers hard-to-reach areas for cable connection. Often this type of connection is used in cottage settlements.

To provide Internet access, the provider installs base stations. They cover a network of approximately 5-10 square kilometers. To connect to the Network, the user needs to use a receiver. If the client is at a considerable distance from the station, he can use a special antenna that amplifies the signal.

The built-in Wi-Fi module is found on most modern electronic devices today. To connect them to the Web, simply select the correct position from the list and enter the password. That is why many customers today are trying to establish an Internet connection through a Wi-Fi router.

In addition, today some providers are trying to promote WiMAX technology. It is easily scalable and easy to deploy, but has yet to be widely adopted.

Conclusion

The Internet today has covered almost the entire globe. However, connecting it is not so easy. To access the Web, you will have to use the services of one of the providers. Residents of large cities can choose from several connection options. In small towns or villages, as a rule, it is possible to connect to only one, maximum two providers. In this case, you can try to install the Internet through a satellite dish.

In this review, the basic principles by which the Internet connection is carried out were given. Connection types were considered with all advantages and disadvantages indicated. Which option to choose - decide for yourself. Don't just decide which type of connection suits you best. The financial component is also important.

There are a fairly large number of types of connections to the Internet provider. Below are the main ones:

1. LAN connection

In this case, the user connects via a normal Ethernet local area network. No additional connections or login/password entry is required. This type is further subdivided into:

a) Dynamic - DHCP or "dynamic". The simplest type, no settings are required and the user simply connects the computer with a cable, which receives all the settings automatically

b) Static -"fixed IP address" or "static". In this case, the "Internet Protocol TCP/IPv4" parameters must be pre-configured according to the settings provided by the ISP, which usually include the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server(s). For example, this type is used by the TDS + provider in Volokolamsk.

Sometimes in both subtypes can be used binding by MAC address(in this case, the router is usually required to support the so-called MAC Cloning or MAC Spoofing - substitution or change of the MAC address on the Internet port).

2. VPN connection

In this case, the user connects through the so-called. VPN (virtual private network) with the need to specify a login and password. This type has subdivisions:

a) PPPoE. To connect to the Internet, you need to create a connection through the setup wizard by selecting "Connect to the Internet" -\u003e "Set up a connection manually" and select PPPoE in the settings.

b) PPTP. To connect to the Internet, you need to create a connection through the setup wizard by selecting "Connect to a workplace" -\u003e "Connect to a virtual private network (VPN)", then specify the address of the VPN server.

c) L2TP. Another type of connection that is gaining popularity. The setting is similar to PPTP, only after creating a connection, you need to select "L2TP IPSec VPN" in its properties on the "Network" tab.

The type of VPN connection can also be found by clicking on the connection icon in the tray (with active Internet) and selecting the "Details" tab.

3. Combined connection type

The most complex type, common, in fact, only in Russia (with rare exceptions). The bottom line is to combine a LAN connection with a VPN connection to provide the so-called. dual access- dual access, i.e. access to the Internet and internal resources of the provider (peer-to-peer networks, IPTV, etc.). Accordingly, various combinations of (1) and (2) can be used, namely:

a) PPPoE + Dynamic. The Internet is provided via PPPoE, the local address in the provider's network is obtained automatically. Usually, routes are also dynamically distributed to access certain resources through a particular interface (using the so-called DHCP option). For example, this type is used by the Chehov.NET provider

b) PPPoE + Static. The Internet is provided via PPPoE, the local address in the provider's network is set manually, statically. Routes are also written manually using the "route add ..." command in the "cmd" console.

c) PPTP + Dynamic. The Internet is provided via PPTP, the local address in the provider's network is obtained automatically. Routes can similarly be distributed dynamically through the DHCP option or manually registered (rarely).

d) PPTP + Static. The Internet is provided via PPTP, the local address in the provider's network is set manually, statically. Routes are also written manually.

e) L2TP + Dynamic. The Internet is provided via L2TP, the local address in the provider's network is obtained automatically. Routes can similarly be distributed dynamically through the DHCP option or manually registered (rarely).

f) L2TP + Static. The Internet is provided via L2TP, the local address in the provider's network is set manually, statically. Routes are also written manually.

P.S. Determining your type of Internet connection will help you set up your wifi router or Wi-Fi hotspot.
