How to add a bookmark to a new folder. Google Chrome - bookmark management in the browser

This article will talk about different ways adding folders, files and programs to the "Favorites" list of the file manager of the Windows operating system - Explorer.

In the Windows operating system, in the Explorer there is a list of "Favorites". To this list operating system By default, links are added to certain folders (for example, "Desktop"), as well as to folders of some programs after they are installed (for example, folders of cloud file storages Google Drive, OneDrive, Yandex.Disk and others).

You can easily add other new folders to the Favorites list, or remove folders there from the Favorites list.

First, let's look at adding folder links to the Favorites list, as well as removing them from this list.

Removing a folder from Favorites

To remove a folder from the "Favorites" list, you just need to move the mouse cursor to the desired folder and click the right mouse button. In the context menu, you need to select the "Delete" item and after that the folder will be removed from this list.

Adding a Folder to Favorites

To add a new folder to Favorites, you must first open File Explorer. Then you will need to select the desired folder and simply drag it, while holding down the mouse button, into the Explorer window to the Favorites list. At the same time, the inscription "Create a link to Favorites" will be visible near the dragged folder.

You can add a folder in another way. To do this, open Explorer, and then in the Explorer window open the folder that you want to add to the Favorites list. In this image, the "CD-DVD" folder is selected.

After that, a new folder appears in Favorites, in the example shown, the CD-DVD folder.

Restoring deleted folders to Favorites

After deleting the default folder links, you can restore them. To do this, right-click on Favorites, and then select Restore Favorite Links from the context menu.

Deleted folder links that were set to "Favorites" by default will be restored. This action will not affect previously added folders to Favorites, links to these folders will remain in the Favorites list.

Adding programs to Favorites

Using the methods described above, you cannot add program shortcuts to Favorites. When you try to move a program shortcut to Favorites, the entry "Failed to put in Favorites" appears.

This obstacle can be bypassed by opening the "Links" folder, which contains the contents of the "Favorites" list.

If the program that you want to add to Favorites does not have a shortcut, then you need to create a shortcut for this program and send it to the Desktop.

A shortcut for a program is created in this way - the Start menu => All Programs => Select the program and right-click on it => select "Create Shortcut" in the context menu => "You cannot create a shortcut in this folder. Put it on the desktop? => "Yes". Now the shortcut of the selected program is placed in the Desktop folder.

After the folder with the program shortcut has been opened in Explorer or the shortcut of the selected program is on the Desktop, you need to open the Start menu and in the upper right corner open your personal folder (the name of your user folder). The contents of the Favorites list are located in the Links folder.

Open File Explorer, and then drag the program's shortcut to the Links folder from the folder containing the shortcut for the selected program. If the shortcut of the selected program is on the Desktop, then simply drag this shortcut to the "Links" folder with the mouse.

In the image, I dragged the Skype program shortcut to the Links folder, and immediately after that, the Skype shortcut appeared in the Favorites list. In the Favorites list, program shortcuts appear without an arrow.

Adding Files to Favorites

In the same way, individual files can be added to the Favorites list. First you need to select a file that will be placed in the "Favorites" list.

For the example, I chose a "Word document" named "Questions". You will need to right-click on the selected file, and select "Create Shortcut" from the context menu.

Before moving a file shortcut, you can remove the ending - "Shortcut" from the file shortcut so that the shortcut name does not differ from the file name. So just outwardly this label will look more beautiful.

To do this, right-click on the shortcut, and in the context menu select "Rename", and then remove unnecessary words from the name of the file shortcut.

After these steps, you need to open the "Links" folder, for this you need to follow this path - the "Start" menu => "Opening a personal folder" => "Links".

Now drag the file's shortcut from the folder it's currently in to the open Links folder. Immediately after that, the file shortcut "Questions" appears in the "Favorites" list.

In order to remove added programs and files from the Favorites list, move the mouse cursor over the selected file and select the Remove item in the context menu.

Article Conclusions

If necessary, the user can add files and folders to the "Favorites" list of Windows Explorer. If the program or file is not needed in the favorites, you can delete it from there.

Working on the Internet, everyone regularly visits the same sites that are regularly needed, for example, sites for their work, study, service Email, some blogs, forums. All the time finding these sites through search engines or entering their addresses manually through the address bar of the browser is inconvenient. It is much more convenient to add such sites to the so-called browser bookmarks or, in other words, to your browser favorites.

With this approach, the sites you need can be easily found, quickly opened and you will not lose them. This is especially true for those sites that you found somewhere and you really need them (even if only temporarily), but if you don’t save them somewhere, you may not find them again or spend extra time searching. In such cases, it is also convenient to add these sites to the browser bookmarks and from there they will not go anywhere, unless, of course, you yourself delete them from there by accident :)

In this article I will tell and show how to use bookmarks (favorites), how to add sites there, quickly open them, using the example of several of the most popular browsers.

Working with bookmarks in the Google Chrome browser

Adding the necessary sites to browser bookmarks

In order for the browser Google Chrome bookmark the site you want, you need to open that site first. Suppose you decide to bookmark the main page of the Yandex. We go to this site, and then press the button in the form of a star:

A window will open where you will see the message "Bookmark added". As soon as you click the Star button, the bookmark is immediately saved in the browser.

Now you can make a couple of settings so that later you can easily find your bookmark and quickly open the desired site:

You can specify a name for the saved site in bookmarks (1). Initially, the browser itself prescribes the name, focusing on the page name. You can change the name to your own, so that later you can navigate in a bunch of bookmarks.

You can specify the folder where the bookmark will be saved (2). Bookmarks can be stored in different folders and initially it is saved in the folder that was used last time. Folders will help you better navigate a large number of bookmarks, as you can organize them by topic.

You can leave the settings as they are and immediately click "Finish" (3) and the bookmark will be saved to the default folder.

Selecting a folder and creating a new one for storing bookmarks

For example, you have 50 favorite sites saved in bookmarks. Of these 50 sites, several are sites for watching movies, there are several sites for listening to music, several sites - online banks or electronic wallets, etc. Therefore, you can create your own folders for each category of added bookmarks (sites), for example, " Banks and e-wallets”, “Watch movies”, “Listen to music”…

Example: in the image below, under the number 1, the created folders for those bookmarks are marked, which I divided into appropriate categories for the convenience of further search. Under the number 2 bookmarks are marked that do not belong to any categories (folders).

To change the save folder, click on the default folder (2).

A window will open where already created folders (1) will be displayed at the top. Initially, the “Bookmarks Bar” and “Other Bookmarks” folders are already automatically created in the browser. The rest you can create yourself. Below there is an item “Select another folder” (2), by clicking on which you will be taken to a window where you can create your own folder (or several) for further saving bookmarks there.

In the window that opens, select the source folder from the existing ones (1) where your new folder will be created and click the "New Folder" button (2).

A new folder will be created in the list above, and you can immediately give it a new name (initially, the folder is called “New Folder”).

Now it remains for you to select in the same window the folder in which the added bookmark will be saved as a result (1) and click "Save" (2).

After completing all the above steps, you will save the bookmark in the folder you need. Thus, you can save an unlimited number of sites!

After the site is bookmarked, when you search through the address bar of Google Chrome with the mention of the name of the site (which you indicated in the bookmarks), you will immediately see the desired site.

For example, the site of the Ulmart store has been added to bookmarks. The bookmark is called "Yulmart online store". By typing the word “yulmart” in the address bar of the browser (1) or by starting to type the site address, Google Chrome will immediately give you the appropriate option below (2).

How to open the desired site saved in Google Chrome bookmarks

Open saved in your Google bookmarks Chrome sites can be done in 3 ways:

Which method of the 3 above methods to use is up to you to choose. The easiest and fastest way is to use the bookmarks bar, because it is visible on every page and you don't need to open the browser menu to get to your bookmarks.

On the other hand, when there are too many bookmarks, it may turn out that this panel becomes inconvenient to use, and then you can use method No. 1 or 3.

Method number 3 is very convenient if the bookmark manager is pinned to the browser so that you can access it quickly. To do this, right-click on the tab where you have the bookmark manager open (1) and select "Pin tab" (2).

As a result, the example bookmark has a miniature view and will always be placed on the left, allowing you to easily access the bookmark manager.

As you can see, everything is easy and simple to do in the Google Chrome browser. But it's also simple in other browsers. Below I will show briefly how all this is done on Mozilla FireFox, Opera and Internet Explorer browsers.

Working with bookmarks in the Mozilla Firefox browser

To bookmark a site in Mozilla Firefox you also need to go to the site and press the button with the star icon (1), after which a window will open for editing the name of the bookmark and selecting a folder to save (2). Having set up saving a bookmark, it remains only to click the "Finish" button.

To view bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox, you need to click on the button to the right of the star (1) and your tabs and folders will appear in the pop-up window below (2). By clicking "Show all bookmarks", you can open the list of your bookmarks in a more convenient way (similar to Google Chrome).

All sites open from bookmarks with one click of LMB.

Working with bookmarks in Opera

In the Opera browser, the site is bookmarked with a button with a heart icon (1). By clicking on it below, a window with settings (2) will appear, as in other browsers, where you can specify the name for the added bookmark, as well as the folder for storing it. After that, the bookmark is immediately added, without pressing any confirmation buttons.

To view bookmarks, open the browser menu (1), select "Bookmarks" (2) and another window with bookmarks will appear (3). The bookmarks and folders themselves will be displayed there. With the button "Show all bookmarks" you can go to the structured view of bookmarks.

Working with bookmarks in Internet Explorer

In Internet Explorer, to open bookmarks and add sites there, like in most other browsers, the Star button is used. To add a site to bookmarks, click there (1) and click "Add to Favorites" (2).

A window will open where you can change the name of the bookmark, as well as specify a folder to save it. By clicking "Add", the bookmark will be saved in the browser in the specified folder.

You can also view bookmarks by clicking on the "Star" button. All the bookmarks you add will be immediately displayed as a list.

In the same window, you can drag added bookmarks between folders directly with the mouse. And to create a new folder, you need to right-click on one of the existing folders.

Conclusion

Bookmarks in the browser are very useful because they allow you to save all frequently used sites and quickly open them. Rather than save links to sites somewhere in text documents, other files, or keep them in emails, which just catastrophically slows down the search for the right links! Who still stores links in some other way, in documents or somewhere else, I recommend starting to use browser bookmarks, as this simplifies the overall work!

Working with bookmarks in Yandex Browser. How to create a bookmark, give it a name and save to right place in the bookmark structure.

If you save bookmarks “in a heap”, then pretty soon you will stop navigating in this heap of bookmarks. Therefore, it is convenient to save bookmarks, spreading them into thematic folders.

carried out, as in many other browsers, by clicking by asterisk in the address bar(on the right side). Also, an open page of the site can be added to bookmarks by pressing the keys simultaneously CTRL+D. You can accept the default folder selection option. But you can also create your folders, call them meaningful names and save bookmarks already in them. This will help you navigate the saved pages more easily in the future. For example, you can create WORK, MUSIC, etc. folders.

Yandex Browser also has ability to import and export bookmarks. Which can be convenient when you need to work on different computers with some set of sites.

But best of all, in order to be able to use your bookmarks on any computer, use synchronization with your account. At the same time, all data about the settings of your Yandex Browser, about its bookmarks and the add-ons you use will be stored on Yandex servers and you will not have to worry about their safety.

The Internet is the place where you can get free information. Text, pictures, video, music. To do this, you first need to open a special program and go to some site in it. Programs are different: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Yandex, or some other.

We just open the icon that we use for the Internet, and the program starts. Through it we get to the sites. By the way, this program is correctly called a browser.

If we need to find some information on the network, then we print a request and get it. Now you don’t even need to open the search engine website for this - just enter a query in the top line of your browser.

But it often happens that we have found some interesting site that we would like to return to later. Doing it the same way (through a query) is not very convenient, and the search results may change. Here, in order to quickly open the necessary sites, in any browser there is such a thing as bookmarks.

Bookmarks are special place in the browser, where you can record information found on the Internet (website, site page). Then, in order to open it again, it will be enough just to go to the bookmarks and select it from the list.

Moreover, you can not only record pages, but also sort them. For example, I found some interesting recipes. You can create a separate folder called "Recipes" and put these pages in it. And put the sites you like on other topics in another folder.

A little lower in the window, the program offers a place in the browser to save the page. This can be the "Bookmarks Bar", the "Other Bookmarks" folder, or another folder that you have created yourself.

"Bookmarks Bar" is the top of Chrome, while "Other Bookmarks" is a separate folder at the end of this bar.

Opera

In the Opera browser, to add a site to your bookmarks, you need to click on the heart at the end of the address bar.

The page is immediately added, you do not need to click anything extra. But by default, it is written to a place called "Unsorted Bookmarks".

And to find it, you need to open a new tab (Express Panel) and click on the heart at the bottom.

The added pages will open. They can be sorted in any way. To do this, on the left side there are a bunch of folders. Including you can drag the page to the Express panel. Then you will not need to additionally go to the "heart" - the bookmark will be added to the browser's home page.

By the way, when adding a site to bookmarks, you could immediately indicate where it should sign up - in the Express Panel or in some folder. To do this, simply select the desired location from the list.
