DIY denim notebook. Scrapbooking Workshop: Denim Notebook

Hello, dear readers of the site cutting and sewing site. One cannot but agree that you can make quite creative products from old jeans with your own hands. Such products include purse, For example. Stylish old jeans bag also a relatively creative product. Actually, everything that was considered creative on the resource. Maybe jeans too. patchwork... too utilitarian, like all kinds of . But with such democratic clothes as jeans, their stocks in the house can be quite large. Something needs to be done with them. It's like a suitcase without a handle, it's inconvenient to drag it and it's a pity to leave it. Today we are making a journal cover. In principle, it can be a cover for both a photo album and a cookbook. The principle is important. So, the topic of today's material is "Do-it-yourself diary cover from old jeans."

Items needed to make a journal cover.

  1. old jeans
  2. Diary (diary, album)
  3. Scissors
  4. Sewing thread and needle
  5. Maybe decorative flowers
  6. Glue

If all this is there, then the cover for the diary is almost ready... ;)

Step 1: Diary measurement

The measurement can be taken without a ruler, simply by attaching the diary to the old jeans being reworked.

But with a ruler, and in this case with a tape measure, it is more convenient. First, you need to measure the length and width of the diary, and write down their values. When transferring to a fabric, it is necessary to add 4 cm to both measurements. This will be an allowance that will be folded. The lines can be drawn as standard with a small, textile marker, remnant. The main thing is that the traces are removed after the product is ready.

Step 2: Cutting the jeans

You can't make scrambled eggs without breaking eggs. You can't make a cover for a weekly magazine without cutting open old jeans.

After the measurement, place the diary in open position on jeans. This way you can get an idea of where the cuts will go, and how much and where the jeans will be shortened.

Let's not forget about admission. Additional margin of 4 cm for both length and width.

It is reasonable to first cut the flap approximately. Then cut it in place, attaching a diary. This will give you an idea of how it will look when completed.

Step 3: Placing the Denim Flap

The photo shows the placement of fabric for making the cover. We must try to fold the fabric so that the back pocket falls entirely on one side of the diary for which the cover is being made.

Apply some PVA glue. The tucked edges of the denim flap are glued from within diary. Then cardboard is glued on both halves of the cover from the inside. Now the diary is left alone for a while. After about 20 minutes we can work with him again.

I repeat. When placing the allowance inside the diary, we need to keep in mind that we want to release the entire pocket.

Step 4: Sewing decorative stitches

Stitches made by hand often look much more profitable, decorative than laid with a sewing machine. The color, texture and thickness of the thread also affect the decorative effect.

After gluing, you can see that the additional canvas remains on the left side of the diary. Sew it on with a needle and thread. If you don’t try too hard, then, oddly enough, it can turn out to be more decorative. We put a bartack at the beginning of the line and at its end. According to the principle of machine stitching. Our product from old jeans is approaching the final.

Step 5: Add Flowers to the Denim Cover

This step, of course, should be defined by functionality. Although crafts from old jeans will endure everything. Let's add flowers to our project.

Now, in the last step, you can decorate the cover for the diary from old jeans, which we made ourselves, with anything. Rhinestones.

For work we need:

unwanted jeans

For work, jeans made from a slightly stretchy fabric are best suited. To create a cover, one leg is enough for us. First of all, we cut the leg along the seam and adjust it to fit the notebook. Pre-bait the edges with pins.

The denim cover can be glued to the cover of the notebook with glue, and it can also be made removable if desired.

Now let's start decorating. Sew or glue a denim pocket on the front side of the cover. In such a pocket it will be convenient to store pens or pencils.

Sew on appliqué in the form of flowers. You can also decorate the notebook to your taste, using your imagination.

How to make a denim notebook with your own hands.

We divide office paper into 5 sheets, alternating white and blue, bend the sheets in half. We collect all the sheets in one block.

We put a sheet of cardboard on top and bottom of the resulting block, clamp it on the sides with clerical clips. We leave the block to lie down for several hours. Then, using a triangular file, cut out 6 small indentations at a distance of 3 cm from each other and from the edge of the block.

We proceed to the binding, for this we take out the block from the clamps. We collect sheets in notebooks, 5 sheets of the same color, alternating white and blue notebooks. Next, we need two strips of cotton fabric, a little less than 3 cm wide.

We sew the first notebook with a “forward needle” seam with a single thread “Iris”, bend the fabric from above, leave the tip of the thread outside.

At the top we put the second notebook (do not forget to alternate colors), insert the thread into the hole of the second notebook and also sew the needle forward with a seam. We hook the thread above the fabric to the thread of the previous block.

At the end of the notebook, we tie a thread into several knots with a tail left. We sew the third notebook, over the fabric we cling the working thread to the thread from the previous notebook. At the end, you need to tie a knot between the current notebook and the previous two. To do this, we skip the thread between the previous notebooks, make a loop, skip the needle and tighten the knot. In the same way, we sew the remaining notebooks into one block. We fix the thread at the end with the help of several sewing knots.

Then again, on top and bottom of the resulting block, we put a sheet of cardboard (we clamp it with clerical clips on the sides). Using a sponge, carefully coat the spine with silicone sealant.

We put clamps around the perimeter of the spine. After a few hours, the block can be trimmed at the print shop, but can be left as is. Then we glue the captal. Next, before gluing the flyleaf to the ribbons, glue a piece of kraft paper.

Let's get to the flyers. We cut out A4 rectangles from designer cardboard, bend them in half. We glue the flyleaf, glue a piece of kraft paper with ribbons on top of the flyleaf.

For the binding cardboard cover, we cut out rectangles so that on three sides they go beyond the block by 5 mm, and on the side of the spine they are 5 mm less. From white paper with a density of 300 g / m2, cut out a rectangle with a height equal to the height of the cover and a width of 10 cm.

Glue the spine to the cover. We cut out a rectangle from the synthetic winterizer according to the size of the cover and glue it on top of the cover. From jeans cut out a rectangle 2-3 cm wider than the cover. For additional decor, you can cut out a small front pocket of jeans.

Glue the fabric to the cover. It's okay if the piece of fabric was not solid, but with a seam, it's even more interesting. We sew the cover along the edge on a sewing machine. With a brush we put white blots on the cover acrylic paint. After the paint has dried, we put background stamps. With the help of lace, sewing, ribbons, plaster decorations, we decorate the cover. We sew the pocket so that a pencil or pen can be inserted into it.

Advice.
In order for the spine to bend beautifully, it is necessary to make several creasing at a distance of 2-3 mm from each other. The distance from the first to the last creasing should be 4-5 mm more height notebook spine.
