Design postcards in scrapbooking style. Creating original scrapbooking cards with your own hands for beginners

Scrapbooking is a type of creativity, the purpose of which is to create various items (postcards, boxes, notebooks, books) with your own hands. The term "scrapbooking" comes from a combination of the British words scrab (cutting) and book (book).

Peculiarities

The very first collection in this style was created in 1598. Around this period, it becomes fashionable in Great Britain to preserve poems. And in Russia at the same time they began to publish handwritten albums and books. This creative process began to take its current form in XIX century, and the term began to be used in the 1830s. Later, home photos began to be added to cuts from magazines, poems and curls. On the pages of the album, a complete chronicle of the family was lined up with all the bright moments captured in pictures, supplemented by memoirs.

One of the earliest things in scrapbooking was greeting cards. In a sense, the postcards created then became the impetus for this art to go beyond the album. And the motifs and look that postcards had when this style was just emerging have become an inspiration for craftswomen today. In addition, many of the most common little things are created using the scrapbooking technique: a notebook (it will be a great birthday present), a photo album, a sketchbook, boxes or a tea house.

It is worth noting some features of this technique.

  • It cannot be attributed to inexpensive hobbies. Both materials and devices cost quite a lot.
  • There are specialized materials, the use of which can ensure safety for a long time. They do not crumble over time, retain the brightness of colors, do not deteriorate when interacting with chemical compounds(for example, in the case of snapshots).
  • Passion for this type of creativity will require a separate workplace and space for storing materials.
  • Creating items in this technique is quite painstaking and will take a lot of time.

Required Tools

So, what might be required to create such a nice little thing as a greeting card?

  1. Cardboard. Strong enough not to get wet from the glue.
  2. Stationery knife and scissors.
  3. Soft sandpaper. For starters, you can change it to a nail file.
  4. Ruler.
  5. Stencils.
  6. Curly scissors.
  7. Glue stick, hot glue or superglue.
  8. Something with which you can make holes (stick, needle).
  9. Gel pens, colored pencils.
  10. Wire.
  11. Sequins.
  12. Thin ribbons, beads, pearls, flowers, bows, stamps, cloth, straw, fabric, tree bark, iron parts.

Staged creation

As a child, we often made postcards as a gift to relatives. It was interesting for us and valuable for the person to whom it was intended. In adult life, few people devote their time to this. Making a scrapbook card is a great opportunity to renew a tradition. homemade gifts. Such a card will look dignified and will please a person.

Variability is another undeniable plus of this idea. Postcards can be round, square, triangular and so on. You will not be limited in ideas: a postcard in the form of a book, photo album, postage stamp, costume or doll.

A postcard can be dedicated to some event, stylized for it, can be classic or neutral.

Let's bring general principle creating such a postcard.

  1. We decide on the shape, color and material for decoration. If necessary, we write the whole process on a separate sheet.
  2. We cut out the base for the card and all the additional details that we need.
  3. We assemble it into a single structure, let it dry.
  4. We give it, we enjoy it.

Well, now in more detail. As an example for parsing, let's take a neutral lace-up postcard.

The necessary tools are as follows.

  1. Very thick cardboard.
  2. Scissors, stationery knife and hole punch.
  3. Nail file or sandpaper.
  4. Tissue paper brown or dark green.
  5. Decorative stamps, metal gears, vintage stylized photo with car, image hot air balloon and hours, a small photograph of the person to whom it is intended.
  6. Same stamp, letter image, straw, black square bead, decorative flowers, newspaper clippings with text, canvas, small compass image, old film strip, pen or seal impression, 1-2 feathers. And also we need a sheet of office paper prepared in advance and cut to size.
  7. Thin rope.
  8. Lighter.
  9. Glue stick.

First of all, let's decide on the scale of the postcard. For example, let's take the dimensions of 18x14 cm. We measure 2 rectangles with these dimensions on thick cardboard and 4 on tissue paper. Cut out. Next, we will prepare newspaper clippings, an image of an envelope, stamps, a photograph and “letters”. It is necessary to dilute instant coffee in a cup in a slight concentration. We “paint” the clippings with a brush and put it on the battery to dry. Then we process the edges of the cardboard parts with sandpaper.

We glue the parts with tissue paper. Glue stick is best for this. Carefully glue the edges, let everything dry. Go over the dried edges with sandpaper again. Next, we will use a hole punch. From the side that serves as the height of the postcard, 6 holes must be made on each part. Above and below the part you need to indent 1 centimeter. We will arrange the postcard horizontally.

Then we will tie 2 pieces of cardboard together with twine. To do this, measure 35 cm from the skein and cut off. We attach the parts to each other so that the holes match. We stretch the twine through the upper hole and cross the method through all the others. We loosen it so that the card opens easily. We tie a knot, thread the ends into a square bead, make a double knot. Cut off the ends and burn them a little so that they do not bloom.

Now it's time for decor. Let's start with the inside. Our blanks should have dried by now. Do not glue wet parts. On one side of our postcard, we will place a place for congratulations. We make the image of a mail envelope as a background.

If there are free "glowing" corners, in which something is clearly missing, then you can supplement the envelope with images of stamps.

Let's stick well. On top we place our “letter” (a place for the text of congratulations). You need to place it so that it does not take up all the space. It should look like part of the composition, as if it is seen by chance. You can place the sheet obliquely.

On the other side we will place a photo, and as a background we will take newspaper clippings. So let's start with the background. Think about where the photo will be placed (it can be on the edge, in the center or in the corner). Place 2-3 newspaper clippings under it so that they create a background.

It is not necessary to cover everything with them, but try to make the clippings take up all the space in the part allotted for the photo.

Before gluing the clippings, lightly burn the edges of the paper. If you have placed the photo on the side or in the corner, then the remaining space can be filled with compass clippings, film strips or feathers, diluted with clippings. Or, with the help of these decor items, you can select another place for writing congratulations. Glue for this additional paper is not worth it.

We carefully look at our work for poorly glued corners or “crawled out” glue. If any are found, then we finish the work inside and go to the cover. The main emphasis in the cover will be on the front of the postcard. To do this, we prepared a vintage postcard with a car, an image of a balloon, a clock, a compass, straw, canvas, gears. In addition, we can use everything that was not useful to us on the interior decoration.

We use canvas as a background. We have prepared a piece with dimensions of 12x9 cm. We place it horizontally in the upper left corner. On top of the fabric in the lower right corner we fix the vintage image of the car. The rest of the space (including the fabric) is filled with the remaining decor details to your taste. For example, you can place a place for dedication there.

Our postcard is ready. This is far from the only way creating postcards using scrapbooking technique.

You can take a solid piece of cardboard as a basis, make it curly or use fabric, napkins as a basis (for example, when using the papier-mâché technique).

Take advantage of the advice of skilled craftsmen.

  1. For wedding cards and invitations, you can use lace in delicate shades.
  2. If the card is intended for a child, then it would be appropriate to make it in the form of an animal or a fairy-tale character. Use bright colors.
  3. It is better to design a card for a man in strict, neutral colors using male paraphernalia.
  4. Do not forget about the sense of humor. For example, a postcard can be in the form of a bottle of wine.
  5. If you are making a postcard in two parts, but there is not enough space, add another part in the middle.
  6. A card for a girl can be decorated with flowers and ribbons. Inside you can make a pocket for notes so that the postcard can be used to store them.

A separate element of decor can be inscriptions made in a beautiful font.

Ideas for inspiration

  • Round postcard in the form of doors. The base is solid, made of thick cardboard. Ribbons, ropes, a button stylized as a print, flowers made of felt and paper were used as decor. Place for text congratulations inside the postcard.

  • The postcard consists of 2 main parts and one auxiliary, which (as an option) can be an integral continuation of the lower part. Buttons, ribbons, flowers and lace were used as decor. The base is completely cardboard. The card is intended for a girl (girl, woman, friend). Makes a great gift for a newborn baby too.

  • Classic rectangular postcard. The decor is made in the form of a window. The basis is a single piece of cardboard. Fabric, beads, ribbons, leaves and blades of grass were used as decor. The card is made in a neutral style and can be a gift for a friend, grandmother or mother.

Add a few sparkling mother-of-pearl dewdrops, distributing them between the snowflakes. Choose a die-cut with an inscription that is suitable in size.

In some places, including on twigs and berries, apply droplets of a brilliant hardening gel.

When the surface is dry, stick the backing on the blue solid base. A beautiful New Year's gift is ready.

Postcard for the New Year in scrapbooking style from scraps - video idea

I suggest watching an excellent master class on creating a greeting card from scraps of paper. True, it is more suitable for those who have long been familiar with such creativity. Surely from previous works you have left a lot of all kinds of paper flats and other small items for decoration.

If you give free rein to your imagination, then you can make such postcards 100 years ahead. Just now I thought how great it is when you have a free minute and you can make such cute little things for relatives and friends. Yes, even if it's just for fun.

Making a postcard with a shaker for the New Year

In general, a shaker is a bartender's working tool. Noise and free movement were transferred to scrapbooking, and then the name. It is understood as a detail made of transparent paper, plastic, tracing paper, which is filled with small decor that imitates the sounds of a shaker. I offer a simple master class on creating an original greeting card, which is suitable for beginners to conquer scrapbooking.

For work you will need:

  • watercolor paper - 1 sheet;
  • beer cardboard;
  • scrap paper - 2 sheets;
  • transparent thick film;
  • glue;
  • small decor.

Operating procedure:

From watercolor paper, cut out a rectangle, the long side of which is equal to half the width of the future postcard. In the middle, draw a line with a non-writing rod, gently pressing. Bend in half.

Take two sheets of scrap paper. They should differ in design, but united by one theme. From one cut out a square that is 5 mm smaller than the size of the postcard. From the second - a rectangle, which is equal in height to the first, and 3 cm wide on each side less than it. In its center, make a hole of the desired size.

On a sheet of beer cardboard, draw a circle of the selected radius, and above it another one, 5 mm larger. Cut first along the outer and then along the inner contour. Should be a bagel. The same size, but without an internal hole, cut out a circle from a dense film.

Start assembling. To do this, stick a larger square of scrap paper on the front side of the postcard. On all sides, make equal indents. Gently iron to ensure that the parts are securely connected.

Take a rectangle. Make a wide strip of glue around the hole, attach the film and press firmly. Iron from the inner edge to the outer so as not to squeeze out the remaining product. "Donut" of beer cardboard smear with glue, attach to the film. This part can be replaced with foam double-sided tape. It is cut into small squares and glued along the entire radius.

Cut the beer cardboard into small squares. Fill them in the free space of the second square. Apply glue to the "donut". Carefully turn the rectangular blank over so that the decoration poured in the middle is exactly under the transparent film. Press gently.

Glue beautiful cuttings with thematic drawings, inscriptions. Think over the composition in advance.

A transparent part can be cut out of a plastic stationery folder. The top part is good for this.

How to make a minimalist scrapbook card

Gifts are given not only to children, girls, women, but also to men. And postcards are also attached to the presentations. If you make them yourself, choose a discreet, slightly strict design. The following is an example of such a solution.

For work you will need:

  • watercolor paper - 23x13.3, 10x12, 11.3x9.5 cm;
  • pastel paper - 11x12.8 cm;
  • cotton two-thread;
  • fabric tape, scrap paper, cotton tape;
  • Shield with congratulations - 1.7x16.9 cm

Operating procedure:

Fold in half the most big leaf watercolor paper. Go through the fold carefully. On the front side of the future postcard, stick pastel paper and then the remaining watercolor squares as they decrease in size. If you have a sewing machine, sew through the layers. An alternative is to imitate a line with a stroke, whitewash.

Approximately in the middle of the cover, on opposite sides, a twin-thread cotton cord is attached to the knots. It should sag slightly, forming an inverted horseshoe. Attach flags cut out from double-folded cotton braid, fabric tape and scrap paper along the contour. The dimensions of each are 1.5x2 cm. And in the lower part there is a nameplate.

The design can be chosen according to your taste. Focus on the preferences of the person to whom the card will be presented. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Decorate the scarf with different pens and glue on the neck.

Step-by-step technique for creating an envelope postcard

Having prepared everything you need and armed with inspiration, you can start making a postcard with your own hands using the scrapbooking technique.

Take a sheet of A4 lilac cardboard and work one edge with a figured hole punch.

From the second edge, measure a strip 3 cm wide and fold it to the middle - this will be the future pocket for a congratulatory insert or money. Then fold the workpiece in half. To make the fold neater, draw along the center line of the workpiece under the ruler with a thin blunt object (for example, empty paste from ballpoint pen), creating a barely noticeable groove.

Cut two strips of purple cardboard, 1.5 cm and 7 cm wide. The length of both strips should be equal to the height of the postcard. Work one edge of a wider cardboard strip with a border hole punch.

On the reverse side of the purple parts, stick strips of double-sided tape.

After removing the protective paper from the pasted adhesive tape, attach the piece with a curly edge to the insert pocket, and glue a thin purple strip on the title page of the postcard, stepping back from the fold 2 cm.

Lay out a small composition from paper flowers and leaves in the lower left corner of the card. Do not rush to immediately glue the flowers. First experiment with their placement and only when you like the result completely, glue each part with transparent glue.

Cut out a 8x7 cm rectangle from purple cardboard, and 6.5x5.5 cm from lilac cardboard. Apply stamp paint to the stamp and make an imprint on the lilac blank.

To give the future postcard a little volume, attach a few pieces of foam tape to the back of the rectangular blanks.

Make accents on the card in several places with the help of pearl half-beads, but do not overdo it.

Glue a purple rectangle on the title page of the postcard first, and a lilac rectangle on top of it.

From white cardboard or paper, cut out an insert that fits the size and insert it into the pocket inside the card. You can also decorate it if you wish.

In the same pocket, if necessary, you can put bills. A postcard combining an envelope for money is ready in scrapbooking technique!
