Jewelry magazines. Did you know that many magazines can be read online and for free? Cuellar Design: Jewelry Stories Jewelery Catalog Magazine

No matter how many times my eyes fall on these jewelry, I always get the impression that I see them for the first time. As if I hear a new story or, reading an already familiar text, discover new meanings, metaphors and artistic techniques in it.

This aesthetic perception of things happens when you come into contact with a work of art that evokes not only the pleasure of admiring, but also vivid emotions and associations, and along with them the desire to possess, as happens every time I see the work of the jeweler Michael Cuellar.

But admiring, admiring and possessing is not enough for me - I want to see how these unique things are born, I want to hear the stories of their origin, and Michael generously shares them with me, generously allows me to “spy” on the process of creating masterpieces from and to ...

Four Stages of Creation

“In general, the period of creating one piece of jewelry takes up to two weeks and is conditionally divided into four stages.

The first important stage for every artist is inspiration, the birth of an idea. For me, it can be of two types: either inspiration hits immediately, I immediately see the thing in the final version and immediately sit down for sketches, no matter where I am. Or I see some interesting stone, pick it up, and the image of the finished thing gradually appears in my head to the smallest detail, and I begin to draw it or sculpt it from wax, proceed to the direct creation.

The second stage is the selection of materials from which I will make (and in what combinations) the decoration, and the subsequent stages - modeling, modeling. For modeling, I have my own specifics and wax. The fact is that the one that can be purchased in stores melts in the hands. Therefore, I conjure over mine, mix different ingredients so that it is harder, keeps its shape better, and this “chemistry” is my little secret.

The third stage is casting, which is difficult to see because this process takes place in complex equipment. First, the model is placed in a flask, that is, in a cylindrical metal mold, then it is poured with a special mold-mass (gypsum) and placed in a vacuum environment on a vibrating table to obtain an ideal surface, all this hardens and dries within a day. Next, the flask is placed in the oven and gradually heated to a temperature of 800 degrees, at which the wax completely evaporates. Then the hot flask is placed in a special vacuum induction injection molding machine. In it, the process of melting the metal takes place, and under pressure and protection of the gas, the casting process is performed without oxidation. After the casting process is completed, the flask is removed from the machine and completely washed with high-pressure water, the gypsum is separated from the cylindrical metal, and the void that was obtained after the evaporation of the wax is subsequently filled with precious metal.”

The fourth stage is the final one, this is the process of the birth of a piece of jewelry. “The cast model of the product is processed by hand, sawn, cleaned, polished, soldered, engraved, cutting and seats for precious stones are created, it all depends on the jeweler's idea. This is a long process, as precision, painstaking work and patience are required to achieve high quality. No wonder they say: jewelry work!

High style Cuellar Design

These exquisite pieces of jewelry cannot be compared to anything else, and although they are sold at a reasonable price, they are not subject to the usual assessment. Because Cuellar Design products are unique, they are haute couture in the world of jewelry and they are priceless.

Jewelry from Cuellar Design has no analogues not only in the Russian Federation, but even in all CIS countries and northern and southern Europe. The founder of the company, artist, sculptor, designer, jeweler Michael Cuellar adheres to a firm position: a thing must be exclusive - from the very beginning of its creation to the moment of completion of work on it.

“We really make unique things that have artistic value,” says the master. - Unlike well-known brands with a 200-year history, which produce albeit high-quality, but serial and, in fact, faceless jewelry, ours are made in a single copy, and they are purchased by those who appreciate not only luxury and beauty, but individuality and exclusivity. After all, the direction of our activity is focused, first of all, on art, but not on mass production.

Looking at the jewelry of Michael Cuellar, you remember the portraits of kings and dukes from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. You want to not only endlessly admire the products of the master, but also take them in your hands, try them on. And one of the first impressions arising from touching them is their significant weight, a sense of energy, power, and the authenticity of the product.

“Yes, my things are mostly large, even outrageous,” the artist continues. - For the manufacture of one piece of jewelry, I spend as much metal and stones as a brand company spends on 5-6.In addition, diamonds in one of my pieces have 6 or more carats compared to serial products, where their weight is 0.13-0.20 carats. I do not skimp on beauty, I make real art.

I am often asked about the average cost of our things. It is about 300 thousand rubles, which is a democratic price for luxury jewelry. But here it is important to understand the main thing: you, your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will wear our clothes not only because of their uniqueness, but also because of their quality. It is worth taking them in your hands, and you will understand that you are holding a real piece of jewelry: it has a sense of weight, it is very soundly made, even if it falls to the floor, nothing will happen to it. This is a thing for ever.

My landmarks are the decorations of the Russian tsars, which are still in the Diamond Fund, and they are still like new.Buying expensive exclusive jewelry has always been the best investment of money, and not only in material, but also in art, and not in a logo, not in the name of a famous brand.I believe that in 100 years my things will be collected, I know that they will live for 300 and 400 years. Those who understand this become our regular customers.”

I am sure that just as we are now proud of the masterpieces of foreigners who glorified Russia - the architecture of Rastrelli, the works of Faberge and others, so over time we will be proud of the jewelry created by Cuellar in Russia.

“Of course, I dream that my jewelry would someday end up in museums and collections,” Michael admits. - I work with elements of the Art Nouveau style, which, despite its beauty and exclusivity, lasted less than 50 years only because, due to the abundance and sophistication of the decor, due to the need to work out the finest details for a long time and carefully, due to the impossibility of replicating, it was unprofitable for a mass producer. In this sense, I even consider that I am accomplishing a small feat, continuing the traditions of this style in my works, without going to the stream. I create beauty. My things have handwriting."

Due to the ever-increasing interest in Cuellar Design products, Michael recently opened a second production line.

“Circumstances, the need to move on and develop often force us to think and change the direction of our activity,” says the jeweler. - Many people like the things of our brand, they want to buy them, but this style is not suitable for everyone, some are more familiar with the classics. For such people, I came up with a new line and called it CDG - Cuellar Design Gothic.

I took gothic decor elements and stylized them according to my style, but in such a way that our chic is still present in the decorations. To remove the gloomy gothic hue, I add color to the products: blue due to turquoise, lilac due to amethyst, and so on. This line, with a new technology principle, allows you to make copies of things, which makes them less exclusive. As a result, their prices are also lower. But I will make a reservation, and this is important: with all the manufacturability of new products, there will still be no more than five copies, and one from the other will certainly be somewhat different. Yes, it is important to develop, increase capital, but even in this line my goal remains the same - to preserve the uniqueness of the thing as much as possible.

One of the most striking and rapid trends of recent times has been the growing popularity of colored gemstones. Gone are the days when boutique windows from Bond Street in London to Place Vendôme in Paris sparkled with the exceptionally cool brilliance of colorless diamonds. According to the Bonhams auction house, prices for jewelry with colored gemstones have increased by 2200% over the past 10 years.

Colored gemstones have become a desirable target for many of our clients who want to invest in high end jewelry. Products with colored diamonds and other minerals are becoming more and more popular. In addition, blue and blue precious and semi-precious stones have recently been in great demand. Shimmering black Capri jewelry from the Louis Vuitton collection, charming in rings from , turquoise brushes and aquamarines from the Blue Book collection from Tiffany, adorning the neck of Cate Blanchett at the Oscars, are just a few testimonies of the growing popularity of shades of blue.

So what will 2016 bring us?

I think the trend for natural, organic shapes, uneven cuts and textures will continue.

It seems to me that it will be very interesting when really non-standard stones will enter the scene. This is an amazing time, as shoppers are becoming less conservative and experimental, and personal jewelry continues to catch on. Everyone wants to decorate their ring with a unique stone.

Another way to stand out, in addition to using unusual stones, can be a custom cut. At first glance, it may not differ from the classical one, but if you take a closer look, you will see the original geometry of the inner faces, as, for example, in the cocktail ring from Sheldon Bloomfield.

Some designers went even further and hid small stones under the central mineral. So, in jewelry from Suzanne Kalan, whose boutique recently opened in London's Harrods, placers of colorless diamonds are covered with transparent quartz or.

Another trend that has been gaining popularity has been the "enveloping" setting for gemstones. In this case, the central stones seem to be wrapped in thin ribbons of precious metals, as in the Luna collection from Kiki McDonough.

Brazilian designer Moritz Glik plays on this theme in his own way, encasing diamonds and other colored gemstones in sapphire glass.

London-based jeweler Gee Woods has long noticed a rise in the popularity of multicolored gemstones among its clients. Yellow sapphires, citrines and diamonds are in special demand. As the designer notes, the interest in unusual stones also applies to diamonds.

Recently, I noticed that many of my clients are looking for something more exciting than the classic diamond cut. I am asked to find stones with an old cut, fancy diamonds and non-standard shapes are becoming more and more popular. Gee Woods

Whether you choose classic diamonds or something colored in 2016, make sure they truly stand out from the crowd.
