Wasteland 2 director's cut won't start. Files, drivers and libraries

One of the best post-apocalyptic RPGs, half funded by the fans of the series, Wasteland 2 was released on September 19, 2014. The game had a budget of over $6 million and was developed by two studios: InXile Entertainment and Obsidian Entertainment. But, as we know, in every game there are some bugs that do not allow you to play calmly. Wasteland 2 was no exception. Today we will analyze the main problems of Wasteland 2, as well as their solutions.

Minimum system requirements:

  • Windows 7 x32 / 8 x64
  • Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
  • GeForce GTS 250 / Radeon HD4650
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 30 GB HDD

Crashes on startup

If you just installed the game and some errors immediately appeared, then the first thing you need to do is update the following drivers/libraries:

  • Video card drivers
  • .NET Framework latest version (a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653">https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download /details.aspx?id=30653)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ DLLs (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784)

Most likely, this should help, of course, if your computer meets the minimum required parameters. But there are other ways to get rid of critical errors.

One of the most common errors in Wasteland 2 is "Windows font crash". It can occur both at startup and during the game. To fix this error, you need to go to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder and delete the UNCLL.tff file from it. If you cannot find the Fonts folder, then you have disabled the display of hidden files. To enable, go to "Control Panel" -> "Folder Options" -> "View" -> turn off "Hide protected operating system files" and turn on "Show hidden folders".

Wasteland 2 crashes while playing

Option one:

  1. Open Steam and go to "Library"
  2. Right-click on the game we want and select "Properties"
  3. Click on "Game Launch Options"
  4. In the window that appears, write -force-d3d9

With this command, in the launch options, we set the forced use of DirectX 9. This helped many gamers, especially if the error appeared when moving to another location.

Option two:

  1. Reducing the texture size
  2. Lower all graphic settings
  3. Disable video card overclocking

We do all this due to the fact that your graphics card is under too much load and it overheats. It is logical that we need to reduce the load.

Increasing the Windows paging file may also work. This method is suitable for those who have little RAM. What we do:

  1. Opening the "Control Panel"
  2. Go to "System"
  3. After that, "Properties" and go to the "Advanced" tab
  4. We find "Settings" and again in the "Advanced" tab, select "Change"
  5. In the window that appears, specify the size of the paging file we need

You can also try to write this line on the command line (Win + R -> cmd): bcdedit / set IncreaseUserVa 3072 (or 2560). Sometimes there may be some errors, but you should not worry. To cancel everything, just write bcdedit /deletevalue increaseuserva on the command line.

In Wasteland 2, Fletcher always returns. Solution

When completing the quest with the return of the NPC Fletcher to the Angel Oracle, the player can get a new character to the team, but Fletcher returns. The game mistakenly considers that there is no place in the team anymore if the player has six characters and one hostage, and does not allow you to take a new one.

For now, the only solution is to fire the CNPC from the squad, attach a hostage to the team, and then tell the CNPC to rejoin the team.

It happens that Wasteland 2 does not start, slows down, crashes, freezes. Most of the problems when playing a toy arise due to the lack of individual system files in it. And let the Steam application automatically install all the necessary ingredients, it does not hurt to control the process manually and update all drivers.

Start

If Wasteland 2 crashes on loading, it's possible that the wrong font is being used. We act like this:

  • We make files and directories visible through the "Control Panel" and "Folder Options". In the "View" tab, uncheck the "Hide" box and put it in front of "Show".
  • Delete UNCLL.tff in the Fonts section on hard drive C.
  • If there is not enough RAM, we increase it through the "Control Panel", "System Properties" and the "Advanced" tab. In the "Performance" section and the "Parameters" item, set the appropriate size.
  • We reduce the texture, experiment with graphics.

No save loading

We figured out what to do if Wasteland 2 crashes on loading, however, if the game starts, it may still refuse to start from the required place. To fix the problem, you need to go along the route: "Documents" - Wasteland2 - Save Games, and eliminate TOC.txt. The next time you start the game, a file is automatically created that can organize the normal loading of saves.

Other errors

Now we know how to solve the problem if Wasteland 2 crashes on loading, but this is far from the only difficulty that you may have to face. It happens that the Steam overlay is idle. This is explained by the fact that it is simply disabled. In order to activate it, go to "Properties". In the line "Object" behind the quotes and after a space, we print the inscription -force-d3d9. As a result, it must change. The result looks like this: "Wasteland 2.exe" -force-d3d9.

Sometimes the camera does not rotate. An unpleasant bug (an error in the program) happens due to the connection of a gamepad to the device. You can bring the camera back to life by disconnecting the joystick and restarting the game and the computer. During the quest related to Fletcher's comeback, the squad can be replenished with a new hero at the same time, but the return of the character prevents this. If there are six heroes and a hostage, an error occurs: there are no places in the team, and it is forbidden to take a recruit. To get out of this situation, it is necessary to fire CNPC, add a hostage, and subsequently reunite him with his colleagues. When using a weapon, the inscription "Scope disabled" appears.
